Petrels thwart Hawks in historic win

ATLANTA – After a dreary first half, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels made an impressive comeback in the fourth quarter to defeat the Huntingdon Hawks 11-10.

Six Petrels found their way into the scoring column as Israel Pendleton-Moore led with three goals. Jazz Washington, Richard Bedgood IV and Jeremiah James each recorded two goals. Alexander Zaichick recorded two assists, and goalie Addison Irwin made 10 saves.

Oglethorpe trailed 6-3 at the beginning of the third quarter, but goals from Pendleton-Moore, Washington and James gave the Petrels the edge they would need to dominate in the fourth quarter.

James' goal in the beginning of the fourth period tied things up at 8-8, but Huntington quickly retaliated. Pendleton-Moore tied things up once again, while Max Brand assisted Bedgood with a smooth goal that put Oglethorpe in the lead. Robbie Coull Jr. boosted that lead, and although The Hawks were the last to score, the Stormy Petrels prevailed.

Oglethorpe came back from a rough first half, with Huntingdon recording a 5-0 run in the first quarter. Scoring was scarce in the second quarter, with Oglethorpe scoring twice and Huntingdon only once as the Hawks reached a 6-3 lead by halftime. Thankfully, the Stormy Petrels turned things around and finished the night with an 11-10 victory.
