ATLANTA – Kaitlynn Alford scored a career high six goals, and the Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team defeated Calvin 19-10 Wednesday night at home. Seven Stormy Petrels saw a piece of the offensive action with a goal or assist.
Alford put the Petrels on the board first just 71 seconds into the game, and Oglethorpe never trailed after that. Makenna Bowens and Sydney Trammell were the next two to score, and fittingly, both would end up with four goals apiece as Oglethorpe's next two leading scorers. It helped build a 3-0 lead, and although Calvin brought the deficit back to one goal at 3-2, Oglethorpe ran away with the win by way of scoring the next six goals.
Others involved in the scoring action were Anna Ramsden with three goals and an assist, and Savannah Freeman and Patricia Batchelor with a goal apiece. Kendall White tallied an assist on Alford's fourth goal as Oglethorpe continued to pad the lead.
Tori Perez, the reigning Southern Athletic Association defensive player of the week, led the team in ground balls with six along with 13 saves. Amber Fuentes tallied three ground balls.
