Petrels storm through SAA opener, Bowens leads with five goals

CONWAY, Ark.—The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels took a road trip to Conway, Arkansas, to face off against the Warriors of Hendrix College, and they handled business with a convincing 18-5 win.

Sophomore Makenna Bowens' season-high five goals led the Petrels' scoring efforts, but her efforts did not stop there, as the Loganville midfielder also stopped three ground balls and recorded one caused turnover and seven draw controls.

Again, the Petrels saw the upperclassmen excelling. Kendall White and Kaitlynn Alford combined four nine points in the Southern Athletic Association opener. White tallied four goals and one assist for five points. The senior sits at a team-high 24 goals on the season.

Alford also crossed the 20-goal threshold after her four-goal performance. The junior midfielder also recorded one caused turnover, one ground ball, and three draw controls.

Sydney Trammell and Anna Ramsden accounted for the remaining three goals, with Trammel totaling two goals and one assist with Ramsden's lone goal. The Petrels beat the Warriors in shots on goal, ground balls, draw controls, successful clears, and just about every other statistic recorded.

With this conference win, Oglethorpe moved to 6-2 on the season, and 1-0 in SAA play. The Petrels look to build on this three-game winning streak, keeping their momentum alive throughout their next three competitions, all of which they host on the Oglethorpe track & field.
