ATLANTA—Carson Weir combined to go 5-for-6 with four runs, a double and a home run, and Oglethorpe's baseball team bounced back to even the series with Berry in a doubleheader Friday at Hermance Stadium. Oglethorpe lost the first game 14-1 but won the second game 10-4.
Weir's homer came in game one as one of the Stormy Petrels' lone highlights of the opener, but that all changed in game two as the team rattled off 12 hits and scored five first-inning runs to put the second game away early.
Greg Johnson doubled in two runs with two out in the bottom of the first to cap the big inning, then Carter Guarino did the same with a two-run single in the second. Guarino's second-inning base hit made it 7-0 and came with two out.
In fact, of Oglethorpe's first eight runs of the game, five came via two-out RBI's, and the Petrels had put together three two-out hits through the first three innings.
Meanwhile, Zach Turner had only thrown 14 pitches and allowed only one hit through two innings, as Oglethorpe led 7-0. Turner would go on to complete five and two-third innings, a career high, during which time he allowed five hits, two earned runs and five walks while striking out six.
Colby James relieved Turner for the remaining one and one-third innings, keeping the Vikings scoreless on one hit and no walks. He struck out one.
