Petrels drop another close one to Covenant

ATLANTA—A two-run eighth gave the Oglethorpe baseball team a 6-4 lead, but Covenant responded with three runs in the ninth to win 7-6 in a nonconference game Tuesday evening.

Oglethorpe had big things brewing in the eighth when, with the scored tied at 4-4, the first four batters reached to give the Stormy Petrels a lead that looked good enough to secure the victory. Nick Tarantino singled in one run, then Mason Pearcy singled in another. It gave Oglethorpe a 6-4 advantage with two runners still aboard, but Covenant escaped the jam with a strikeout and flyout.

Then in the ninth, the visiting Scots returned the favor with four of the first five batters reaching, including one on a single up the middle that put them into the lead.
