DEMOREST, Ga.—A two-out double in the bottom of the eighth sent the Oglethorpe baseball team to a 7-6 loss at Piedmont on Tuesday.
Oglethorpe showed tremendous resilience in the loss by erasing a 5-1 Piedmont advantage to take a 6-5 lead in the seventh but were saddled with their second straight loss.
Jonathan Cruz posted a three-hit day with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate, his third three-hit game and eighth multihit game of the year so far. Carson Weir followed in the latter category with a 2-for-5 effort alongside two runs and an RBI.
Weir had one of the biggest swings of the day with an RBI double in the fourth that made it 5-3. He then came around to score to make it 5-4 on a Drew Jabaley single four batters later.
The fourth inning would end with Piedmont ahead 5-4, but Oglethorpe was quick to strike again and tie it. Cooper Wilson had the game-tying RBI in the fifth on a ground ball that scored Ethan Snipes, and Snipes then came home to score and take the lead on a wild pitch in the seventh.
