BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Oglethorpe baseball team suffered an 11-0 loss to No. 7 Birmingham Southern in the first game of the Southern Athletic Association tournament on Friday. The game was the first of a three-game series to determine who will advance to the final stage of the tournament.
Birmingham Southern, the tournament's top seed, got on the board with three runs in the second inning and never looked back. It proved to be all the Panthers needed, although they added to the lead with three more in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Carter Drake continued his torrid streak of hitting with a 2-for-3 day. He moved to 7-for-9 in his last three games. Carson Weir went 2-for-3 with a double.
Oglethorpe will need to win both games of Saturday's doubleheader in order to continue its season. Game one is set for 2 p.m. ET, and the winner of the series will advance to the final stage next weekend.
