Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Story by Nyle Farooqui

Men’s soccer gets historic 1-0 win against No. 11 WLU

ATLANTA-A crucial goal led the Oglethorpe men's soccer team to a historical 1-0 win against No. 11 Washington and Lee University on Friday at Emory University in the Sonny Carter Invitational.

Ben Alram scored from outside the box from a ridiculous angle in the 57th minute, and the assist came from Nicolas Sciarra. This was Sciarra's first assist of the season and his first ever for the men's team. It was a beautiful goal from Alram as the ball crept past WLU goalkeeper Will Joseph and into the bottom left corner of the net.

This goal was one that will go down in the history books. It was not just the Frenchman's first goal of the season. It was an important goal that brought Jon Akin's side their first-ever win against WLU since the two teams started playing against each other back in 2017. This match was a great way to start the season and could serve as a confidence boost going forward.

It was not an easy match as it was an uphill battle between both the Stormy Petrels and WLU. Things could have gotten off to a rocky start after a foul led to a penalty for WLU. However, the penalty was not converted by WLU'S Weyimi Agbeyegbe. Oglethorpe would then imprint themselves into the game and eventually get rewarded for it, stepping up to the challenge of playing one of the best sides in NCAA Division III.
