ATLANTA- It was the perfect season opener for the Oglethorpe women's soccer team as they put on a firework display on Friday night at home for their loud and proud fans with four goals scored in just 32 minutes. The Stormy Petrels used those four goals, all in the second half, to defeat Agnes Scott 4-0.
Oglethorpe came flying out of the gate in the first half with many chances created, but they were just missing the final product.
Things started to click for them in the second half. Ella Price opened the scoring in the 53rd minute with a shot that ripped the back of the net. It was a special moment for the freshman with her first goal of her collegiate career. Taylor Whiteside played a great ball to Price in the buildup to the goal, the senior's first assist of the season.
Jade Anderson doubled the lead in the 67th minute after a sequence of chaos in the box where Agnes Scott failed to clear the ball. It was the junior's first goal of the season.
The third goal would come for Head Coach Rob King's side in the 83rd minute as Harlow Cregar fired the ball into the upper right of the net. It was the sophomore's first goal of the season. Mackenzie Jones assisted on the goal for her first assist of the season.
Just two minutes later, the final blow was delivered after a great run and cross that saw Delaney Hanks find the back post as she put the ball into the back of the net with an assist from Anderson.
It was utter domination for the women in white and gold. Players such as Cregar and Jones caused problems for Agnes Scott. The team proved it can cause severe trouble for opponents when they are at their best. The coaching staff and the players will be hoping that they can build off this performance.
