ATLANTA – After a straining battle, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell 3-0 to the No. 9-ranked Emory Eagles. This upset Oglethorpe's four game winning streak to start the season.
Briella Kohler led with seven kills, followed by Ashlynn Stephens with six. Ellie Alfonso recorded eight digs. As a team, Oglethorpe tallied 24 kills and 38 digs.
Alfonso recorded the first point of the game with a stellar kill, but Emory was quick to respond. After some back and forth in the first half of the set, the Eagles managed to get ahead and win the set 25-14.
Oglethorpe also won the first point in the second set after an attack error from Emory. Once again, the Petrels were keeping pace until a streak by Emory at the end of the set helped the Eagles take it 25-19.
Emory then finished off the match with a 25-15 win in the third and final set.
