ATLANTA—Daniel Amah scored the eventual winner in the 66th minute before JR Cozine padded the lead in the 73rd minute, and the Oglethorpe men's soccer team defeated Centre 2-0 Saturday in a Southern Athletic Association matchup. The win was the fourth straight for the Stormy Petrels, all four of which have been shutouts.
Oglethorpe improved to 6-1-1 on the year in its home opener and SAA opener.
Amah provided all the scoring Oglethorpe would need midway through the second half after a mostly one-sided 65 minutes of action. It came from close range after a great flick by Javier Aponte inside the box. Aponte received the crossing pass in from Ben Alram and redirected it backward to Amah who one-touched it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
The assist for Aponte was his first of the season.
Oglethorpe continued to dominate the match and it paid off once again in the 73rd minute. This one came after another close scoring opportunity drew a foul in the box and resulted in Cozine converting the penalty kick for his third goal of the season.
