SEWANEE, Tenn.–Cristian Medina provided the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute before Ben Alram scored the game winner with seven minutes left, and the Oglethorpe men's soccer team earned a 2-1 road win at Sewanee Friday night.
The win snapped the Stormy Petrels' school record-tying four straight games without conceding a goal but was a much-welcome road win as the team picked up three more Southern Athletic Association points and stayed perfect in the league.
The possession and chances stayed mostly in favor of the men in black and yellow with Medina finally breaking through the onslaught of scoring chances with his second goal of the season midway through the second half. It came on a great low crossing pass from Alram along the right side as Alram connected with the slashing Medina who finished from close range.
All seemed headed for a Petrel victory until a penalty kick awarded to Sewanee in the 79th minute saw the game knotted back up at 1-1.
That knot did not hold for long as the Petrels remained cool under pressure and went back into the lead when Alram coolly stepped up to a free kick with less than seven minutes left, sending it past Sewanee goalkeeper Nathan Vanhoeve to secure the victory.
