Volleyball falters at Centre as Cenodya hits career milestone

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels continued a tough Southern Athletic Association and road stretch, falling 3-1 to the Centre Colonels on Saturday. The match included Sofia Cendoya collecting her 1,000th career dig.

Briella Kohler led with 16 kills, followed by Kaitlyn Bassett with seven. Sofia Cendoya recorded 17 digs, as Kohler and Ellie Alfonso each recorded 11. Autumn Lilly tallied 34 assists.

Oglethorpe recorded a great first set, opening with an attack error from Centre and a kill by Ashlynn Stephens. The lead bounced back and forth between the Petrels and the Colonels, but Oglethorpe caught a streak for a 21-16 advantage. A kill from Alfonso put Oglethorpe at set point, then another kill from Stephens resulted in a 25-19 win.

Lilly opened the second set with a service ace, but Centre was quick to respond. Once again, the Petrels put up a strong fight as the lead bounced back and forth. However, the Colonels were able to pull ahead and defeat Oglethorpe 25-19.

The third set began with Oglethorpe earning two points, but Centre did not allow a repeat of the first set. Oglethorpe fell 25-18 for a 2-1 overall score.

Centre earned the first point of the fourth and final set, foreshadowing the remainder of the match. Oglethorpe had a better time keeping pace with the Colonels this set, but ultimately fell 25-21 for a final score of 3-1.
