Early equalizer helps Petrels draw Maroons

DEMOREST, Ga. – Mackenzie Jones scored the game-tying goal in the 14th minute after the Oglethorpe women's soccer team found itself in an early hole, and the Stormy Petrels came away with a 1-1 draw against Roanoke Friday night on the campus of Piedmont. Goalkeeper Haley Lowell had a phenomenal game with 12 saves.

Harlow Cregar had the assist on the equalizer that came just two and a half minutes after Roanoke went into the early lead. The goal and assist were the first such of the season for both Jones and Cregar.

  • The Petrels are now three games into the 2023 season with two unbeaten results.
  • The match was the first between Oglethorpe and Roanoke since 2005, when the two teams had another 1-1 draw.
  • Roanoke held an advantage on corner kicks at 7-2.

Up Next

Oglethorpe hosts Meredith Sunday at 11 a.m. at home. After that, the Petrels hit the road for Huntingdon on Friday, Sept. 15, then return home for two matches the following week.
