Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Team effort leads Petrels at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn.–Three Stormy Petrels hit double figures and 10 made it into the scoring column in a lopsided 84-72 win against Sewanee for the Oglethorpe women's basketball team Friday evening on the road. Oglethorpe led by as many as 26 in the second half after a big second and third quarter stretch.

"I loved our unselfish ball movement tonight on the offensive end," said Head Coach Alex Richey. "We were willing to give up good looks for great looks, and to see us execute like we did on the road is a good step forward for our group."

Jessamy Gaetanos, Allison Hoffmann and Keimarya Rivera hit double figures to lead the Petrels in the win. Gaetanos had 13 points, four rebounds and four assists, Hoffman had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, and Rivera had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Other Petrels part of the scoring action included Carley Bell and Morgan Skipper both with nine, Malia Melton with eight, and Briley Elder with seven.

The game was tied at 7-7 until at 8-0 run from Oglethorpe put the Petrels into the lead the rest of the way. A similar 10-2 run early in the second half saw Oglethorpe expand a 12-point lead into a 20-point lead, then a 9-0 run late in the third quarter helped Oglethorpe extend to its largest lead of 26. Gaetanos scored five of her 13 points on that last run.
