ATLANTA—Carley Bell led with 16 points while Malia Melton followed with 15, but it was not enough in a 66-62 Oglethorpe loss to Centre Sunday on the road. Bell and Melton both were one point shy of their career high in the loss.
After a back-and-forth game saw the two teams tied at the half, Centre led by nine with two and a half minutes left until two separate four-point runs from Oglethorpe brought it to a three-point game in the closing stages.
Keimarya Rivera had a big and-one in the last 10 seconds to cut the deficit to 65-62, but it would be too late as a free throw from Centre on the other end helped seal the game.
Rivera followed Bell and Melton in double figures with 13 points. Following next was Kayla DeHerrera with eight points.
Game Notes
- The loss followed a stretch where Oglethorpe had won three of its last four, the only loss coming to SAA preseason favorite Rhodes in overtime.
- Bell caught fire from 3-point territory, going 4-for-5 from the perimeter and 6-for-9 from the field.
- Centre leads the all-time series 34-28 but Oglethorpe has won 10 of the last 14.
