DANVILLE, Ky. - As Southern Athletic Association play rages on, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell 79-65 to the Centre Colonels.Â
Perry Robinson led with 16 points followed by Jordan James with 14 and Dylan Pumpian with 12. Jackson Kemp made six rebounds while Robinson and Pumpian both recorded five.
"We just never got in a flow today, but we still outshot them from the field and also from 3-point range," said Head Coach Philip Ponder. "The difference in the game was offensive rebounds and turnovers, and thus they got way more shot attempts than us. Sundays on the road are tough, and there are no easy games in our league. We will look to bounce back Friday at home."
Centre began the game with a five-point lead, but Malachi Dooley and Pumpian combined to quickly even things out. The Colonels and the Petrels had a fairly even battle for most of the first period, but Centre pulled ahead by the end and headed into halftime with a 37-28 lead.
The second half started with a 3-pointer from Pumpian, but the Colonels were able to make a strong run. Oglethorpe came close to taking back the lead several times, but the Colonels managed to scrape out a 79-65 win. This was Oglethorpe's first conference loss of the season after a history of tough battles against Centre, but Oglethorpe still leads the league with a 4-1 record.
