ATLANTA—Briella Kohler, Gracie Sims and Ashlynn Stephens all hit double figures for kills, and the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels returned home this weekend to a 3-1 win against the Hendrix Warriors.
The first set was rough for the Stormy Petrels after the Warriors managed a five-point lead. Oglethorpe fought back and closed the gap. Hendrix started to catch up before Madison Williams made the set-winning kill. The set was close but the Stormy Petrels won it 25-23.
The second set of the match started off much like the first. The Stormy Petrels made many amazing plays, and Autumn Lilly had 23 assists. This time, though, Oglethorpe did not let Hendrix get too far ahead, and Oglethorpe won the set 25-20.
The third set was rocky for the Stormy Petrels. Hendrix pulled ahead early and Oglethorpe struggled to catch up. A kill from Kohler, one of 14 this match, helped the Stormy Petrels get closer to victory but in the end it was not quite enough and Hendrix won the set.
The final set of the match started with Hendrix pulling far ahead very quickly. The Stormy Petrels had a hard time trying to take the win back, but they rallied together and got closer and closer to Hendrix. The end of the set was close, but Oglethorpe won the set and the match on a kill from Gracie Sims.
Oglethorpe will stay home for the next match Sunday at 11 a.m. against Rhodes. The day will feature senior day prior to first serve.
