Volleyball bested by Centre in five

ATLANTA—The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels took on the Centre College Colonels at home this weekend, but despite winning the opening set, fell in five sets.

The match started off strong with the Stormy Petrels winning the first set 25-18. Sophomore Autumn Lilly also had a season-high with 45 assists throughout the match. The set ended after a service error from the Colonels.

The second set started with a kill by Camdyn George. Gracie Sims was also a standout with 18 kills. This set was just as tight as all of the other sets in the match. However, Oglethorpe fell behind and the Colonels took the set 25-19 with a kill.

The Stormy Petrels found the third set the roughest but still kept it close. Centre stole ahead for the first half of the set. After a service error from the Colonels, the Stormy Petrels saw their way in and started fighting back. In the end, Centre won 25-20 with another kill.

In the fourth set, the Stormy Petrels were not ready to give up, with most of the set being tied. After a kill from Ashlynn Stephens near the end of the set, the Stormy Petrels ramped it up, taking the lead. They won the set 25-19 after another kill from Briella Kohler.

The fifth set started off much like the previous two with the scores, staying no more than a few points away from each other. Halfway through the set, the Colonels pulled ahead winning the set 15-9 and winning the match.

Up next, Oglethorpe returns home Sunday to host Sewanee then will spend the next two weekends away in Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi. They will return home on October 23 for a match against Berry at 6:30 p.m. at Dorough Field House.
