SEWANEE, Tenn.—While on the road, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels came out victorious against the Sewanee Tigers in a 3-1 victory on Saturday.
Gracie Sims started the match off well for the Petrels by getting the first kill. The spark did not stay long though with the Tigers pulling in front of the Stormy Petrels. As the scores got higher Oglethorpe reached ahead scoring six points in a row securing them the set 25-23.
The second set went much the same as the one before with the Stormy Petrels working hard for the win. Gabbi Phillips, who finished with 32 assists during the match, made the set-winning kill, and Oglethorpe came out on top again 25-15.
The third set started close with neither team being able to pull ahead. This was the mood for all of the set with both teams failing to get a strong lead against the other. The end was close, but Sewanee managed to take it from Oglethorpe 26-24.
The final set was tense for Oglethorpe. Sewanee started strong getting the first three points, but the Stormy Petrels answered tying the score. It went back and forth on which team was ahead before a kill from Briella Kohler, one of 11 this match, gave Oglethorpe the head start they needed. They won the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.
Up next, Oglethorpe is making a stop in Kentucky to play Centre College on Sunday before coming back to Atlanta to play at Emory next weekend.
