DANVILLE, Ky.—In the final Southern Athletic Association match of the regular season, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels were unable to secure the win against Centre College and lost 3-0.
The Stormy Petrels, who lost in a narrow five-set match to Centre at home earlier this season, fought hard in the first set but narrowly lost 25-23. The second set was much rockier for Oglethorpe with Centre pulling far ahead fast. Gracie Sims helped close the gap with seven kills during the match. In the end, Centre took the set 25-13. The final set did not go well for the Stormy Petrels and Centre ended up winning the set 25-17 and the set 3-0.
Sims was the team's leader for kills while Gabbi Phillips totaled 20 assists, and Briella Kohler and Phillips posted 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Up next, Oglethorpe returns to Atlanta next weekend to face Emory. The SAA tournament starts the following weekend, and the Stormy Petrels will be the five seed.
