ATLANTA – Fifteen Stormy Petrels found themselves in the scoring column Tuesday night as Oglethorpe dominated the Asbury Eagles 91-66 and Malachi Dooley led with 13 points.
Four other Petrels hit double digits, with Willard Thompson posting 12 points as Dylan Pumpian, Perry Robinson and Logan Turner all put up 11. Joe Helenbrook made 10 rebounds, and Robinson had eight. Pumpian made four assists and Dooley made three steals.
Jordan James, Pumpian and Dooley combined for a 7-0 run to open with a strong lead that would last the entire game. Soon after, the same three Petrels posted a 12-2 run. Dooley ended the period with his signature with a steal and stellar dunk.
Dooley continued to shine after halftime, draining a 3-pointer in the first 15 seconds thanks to an assist from Robinson. This kicked off a 9-2 run, which was followed by a dunk and a layup from Turner. Taylor, Christian Williams and Robert Reisman combined for a 10-1 run, then Carter Watkins hit a 3 pointer in the final seconds for the 91-66 win.
"That was a good team win," said head coach Philip Ponder after the win. "We had a lot of guys contribute, and it was nice to not have a nailbiter for a change. We are going to enjoy a few days off for Thanksgiving before getting back to work on Saturday."
