ATLANTA – Oglethorpe fell 103-63 across town at third-ranked Emory Monday night. Despite a big lead from the Eagles, Perry Robinson posted a season high of 28 points along with six rebounds.
Jordan James followed with nine points and Malachi Dooley put up six. Logan Turner and Joe Helenbrook both made four rebounds while Dylan Pumpian made four steals.
"We took one on the chin tonight," said head coach Philip Ponder. "Emory is #3 in the nation for a reason. I thought we competed for 30 minutes of the game, but I didn't like the way we finished the last four minutes of the first half and the last six minutes of the game. It's a 40-minute game, not 30, so we need to get better at putting together a full 40 minutes."
Despite Pumpian getting a steal, Emory was the first to score. Pumpian quickly responded with a layup to get Oglethorpe on the board, but the Eagles continued to build their lead. After a layup from James, the Petrels headed into halftime down 44-29.
Emory held the lead for the entire game as Oglethorpe battled to shorten the gap. James hit a free throw to open the second period, and Robinson really took off. However, Emory's already large lead and steady offense resulted in a 103-63 loss for Oglethorpe.
Game Notes
- Robinson scored a point per each minute he was in the game. He also went 4-5 on free throws.
