MEMPHIS—A late equalizer from Steele Norton followed by a golden goal in overtime from Ben Alram on Friday afternoon sent the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels to the SAA Championship final after taming the Sewanee Tigers in a 2-1 comeback victory.
An own goal from Oglethorpe allowed Sewanee to take the lead in the 40th minute, but the Petrels kept putting pressure on the Tigers in the second half with the hopes of finding a goal. Eventually, that goal came.
Norton made a great turn past a Sewanee defender and slotted the ball into the back of the net after a great cross from Thaddeus Harp in the 75th minute. It was the senior's third goal of the season and the sophomore's first assist of the season.
After the equalizer from Norton, the momentum turned to Jon Akin's side. The regulation period of the match ended at 1-1 and was then headed to overtime. In the 97th minute, the game winning goal came from captain Ben Alram as he headed the ball into the back of the net after a greatly placed cross from Owen VanMarter. It was the senior's fifth goal of the season and the junior's second assist of the season.
Oglethorpe showed incredible resilience and grit to come from behind and get an important victory that grabs them a spot in the SAA Championship Final.
