ROME, Ga.– Despite five players in the scoring column, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell 16-13 to the LaGrange Panthers in their final game of Berry's Peach State Classic.
Jazz Washington and Quade Bedgood led with five goals each. Israel Pendleton-Moore tallied one goal and a career high of four assists, while Hinton Chandler and Robbie Coull also got a goal of their own. Goalkeeper Xay Duax made 20 saves.
LaGrange was able to score the first goal of the game, but the score was tied several times in the first quarter. Oglethorpe was unable to get a proper lead until there were only 42 seconds on the clock after a goal from Bedgood put the Petrels up 5-4. The Panthers managed to score again, and the period ended at 5-5.
Thanks to an assist from Chandler, Washington made the first goal of the second quarter and put Oglethorpe back on top. Chandler soon followed with a goal of his own, but the Panthers were able to quickly tie things up again. Just like the first quarter, this pattern continued throughout the period until the Petrels headed into halftime up 11-10.
However, the third quarter became the deciding factor for the game. LaGrange prevented Oglethorpe from scoring but made four goals of its own. The Petrels made the first and last goals of the final quarter, but the lull from the third period doomed Oglethorpe to a 16-13 loss.
