ATLANTA—Briley Elder hit a huge game-tying 3-pointer with just over one minute to go and the Oglethorpe women's basketball team held Centre to only one point over the last three and a half minutes, but it was not enough as the Stormy Petrels fell 58-57 in their final home game of the 2023-24 season.
The game was tied at 54-54 at the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter before Centre took the lead with a two-pointer just under five minutes to go. Centre then added to the lead with a free throw to go ahead 57-54 near the 3:30 mark, where the score remained under Elder sank a game-tying triple two minutes later.
It looked good for the Stormy Petrels, who forced two turnovers and a missed shot on Centre's next three possessions, but Oglethorpe failed to capitalize. Centre went to the line in the final 30 seconds and made one of two to take the final lead, and Oglethorpe followed with a turnover on the next possession.
