Petrels win at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. - As Southern Athletic Association play heightens, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels picked up a 77-61 win over the Hendrix Warriors Friday night. Perry Robinson led with 23 points.

Behind Robinson, Jordan James posted 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Malachi Dooley had 11 points and four rebounds while Dylan Pumpian scored 11 points.

The first five minutes of the game looked iffy for the Petrels as Hendrix was the first to score and found a few tiebreakers, but Oglethorpe would soon step ahead. The Petrels went on a 12-0 run to make an 18-12, an advantage they would not relinquish for the rest of the game.

Later, the Petrels recorded an 8-0 run and were ahead 24-16 with six minutes remaining. The Warriors managed to regain some ground toward the end of the period, but Oglethorpe headed into halftime with a reassuring 37-29 lead.

Hendrix continued their comeback effort as the second half began, but the Petrels kept them at bay. The Warriors gave Oglethorpe more of a fight this period but were eventually worn down. Later in the game, the Petrels had an 11-3 run to boost their lead to 69-56. Hendrix only earned one point in the final two minutes, and the scoring ended after two good free throws from Dooley. Oglethorpe's late 6-1 run brought a 77-61 win.

"We played a complete game tonight," said Head Coach Philip Ponder after the win. "We had low turnovers, shot it well, and played good defense. It's good to get back on the winning track, and hopefully we can build on that Sunday."
