ATLANTA—A narrow 5-4 loss on the men's side and a 9-0 loss on the women's side marked the start to the Southern Athletic Association season for Oglethorpe's tennis teams Wednesday afternoon at Downing Howell Tennis Courts.
Oglethorpe battled back and forth with Berry the whole day, seeing a 2-1 Berry advantage after doubles change to a 3-3 tie after the first wave of singles. Daniel Cohen had a resilient come-from-behind victory at No. 1 singles by bouncing back from a 6-1 loss in the first set by winning the second and third both 6-3.
It was a similar story for Bailey Raymond at No. 2 singles as he took the first set 6-1 then clinched the point in the third by winning 6-3.
Oglethorpe earned a fourth point from Zack Raymond at No. 6 singles, but Berry took the other two at the bottom of the lineup to secure the win.
On the women's side, Alexis Salgueiro had a hard-fought match at No. 3 singles, erasing a 6-3 first-set loss with a 6-1 second-set win, but she fell 7-5 in the third set tiebreak. Izzy Forster at No. 1 also had a tight match that went two sets, falling 7-5, 6-2.
Up next, Oglethorpe's men host Covenant Friday at 3:30 p.m. back here at Downing Howell Tennis Courts. The women will be back home with the men on Saturday, April 6, to face Hendrix in SAA play.
