Oglethorpe hits fourth straight win

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels continued their winning streak by defeating the Randolph Wildcats 16-12 as several players reached new season highs.

Quade Bedgood led with five goals and one assist, followed by Israel Pendleton-Moore with four goals and a season high of five assists. Max Brand made a season high of three goals and one assist, while Hinton Chandler recovered five groundballs and won 11 faceoffs. Goalie Xay Duax made 15 saves.

Bedgood was the first to score, but the Wildcats followed less than a minute later. Randolph was able to gain a one-goal lead several times in the first quarter and ended the period with a 5-4 lead despite pushback from the Petrels. Randolph managed to dominate the beginning of the second quarter, but Noah Stroud kicked off a 4-0 run that included goals from Pendleton-Moore and Brand. Now up 8-6, the Petrels were able to hold their lead for the rest of the game and increased to a 10-7 lead by halftime.

Randolph claimed the first goal of the third quarter, but it would be their only one of the period. The third quarter moved at a much slower pace, but Bedgood and Pendleton-Moore combined for two more goals for Oglethorpe. The Wildcats opened the fourth and final quarter with a rather early goal, but the Petrels were already out of reach.

Oglethorpe continued to fight off Randolph throughout the fourth period, and although the Wildcats snuck in a few goals, the Petrels walked away with a 16-12 win.
