Oglethorpe suffers first SAA loss at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels continued Southern Athletic Association play at Sewanee but fell 16-11 to the Tigers.

Ally Moir led with a season high of seven goals, followed by Makenna Bowens with three. Bowens also recorded five groundballs and two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Tori Perez made 10 saves.

Sewanee scored the first goal of the game, but Bowens soon evened things out after a goal off a free position shot. The Tigers scored twice more to end the period with the lead, then went on to build their lead in the second quarter. Moir earned Oglethorpe's sole goal of the second period, and the Petrels headed into halftime down 7-3.

Despite the frustrating second quarter, the Petrels continued to fight, and Bowens picked up the first goal of the second half. However, Oglethorpe could not find an opportunity to overtake the Tigers and suffered their first conference loss at 16-11.

Game Notes

  • Savannah Freeman made her first assist of the season.
  • Oglethorpe went 18-22 on clears.
