Petrels take Tornados for a spin

ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels defeated the Brevard Tornados 21-3, marking a major win in their first ever contest as several Petrels recorded season highs.

Ally Moir led with seven goals and one assist, followed by Makenna Bowens and Anna Ramsden who made four goals each. These were season highs for Moir and Bowens, while Kaitlynn Alford scored twice and Sydney Trammell made five assists. Goalkeeper Tori Perez made three saves while Sophia Savage made a career high of two.

Ramsden scored the first goal of the game in under 20 seconds, thanks to an assist from Trammel. Brevard was quick to respond, but it would be their one and only for three quarters. Oglethorpe scored eight more times in the first period alone, with Moir sinking four of them. Kaitlynn Alford scored the final goal of the first quarter, giving the Petrels a 9-1 lead.

Bowens and Trammel combined to move the game to running clock early in the second quarter, and the Petrels scored three more times for a 14-1 lead at the half.

Scoring slowed in the third quarter, until Amber Fuentes and Moir made back-to-back goals around the 10-minute mark. The Petrels picked up the pace once again and headed into the fourth quarter up 18-1. The Tornados were able to make the first goal of the final period, but Mariah Butler soon scored to keep them in line. Brevard managed to score once more, but Amanda Cason shot the final goal for the 21-3 win.
