CONWAY, Ark.—The Oglethorpe baseball team suffered a three-game sweep to Hendrix Friday and Saturday in a Southern Athletic Association road series. Oglethorpe lost both games of a doubleheader, 12-2 and 2-1, Friday evening before losing the finale 19-0 on Saturday.
Game Three
Hendrix had already won the series after Friday's doubleheader but completed the series sweep with a big inning early that Oglethorpe could not overcome. It came in the form of five runs in the first and the Warriors were even quick to score two more in the second.
Things then spiraled out of control for the Stormy Petrels, who gave up two runs in the fourth, seven in the fifth and three in the sixth, all while being held scoreless for the first time this season.
Game Two
Another late lead-changing rally attempt came up short for the Petrels in the seven-inning nightcap. After Hendrix took a 2-0 lead with runs in the second and fourth, Jonathan Cruz had an RBI single in the top of the sixth that made it 2-1. It also pushed the tying run to scoring position and brought the go-ahead run on base, but a pair of strikeouts ended Oglethorpe's threat.
Colby James pitched another great effort with a complete game consisting of six innings, seven hits, two runs, three walks and four strikeouts.
Game One
Oglethorpe had the early lead after a Jaxson Corr RBI hit-by-pitch brought in the game's first run in the top of the second. However, it was nearly all Hendrix from there as the Warriors answered back with three runs in the bottom half, then nine runs across the last three innings.
Oglethorpe cut it to 3-2 in the top of the sixth on an Isaiah Pou bases-loaded two-out walk, but the Petrels left the bases loaded.
Nick Tarantino and Corr both led the Petrels at the plate going 2-for-4 and 2-for-3, respectively.
Up Next
Oglethorpe hosts the next four games starting with Piedmont Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Stormy Petrels will then host Rhodes in the final SAA series of the season next weekend.
