Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Chloe Clemensen

Petrels rumble with Roanoke

ATLANTA – Oglethorpe's women's soccer team hosted Roanoke for their 2024 home opener, which resulted in a 1-1 draw against the Maroons.

Mackenzie Jones scored Oglethorpe's goal from a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Katherine Crim made seven saves in the first half, then Grace Elsevier made eight saves in the second.

The first half was a struggle for dominance as Oglethorpe managed to outweigh Roanoke as far as possession time, but the Maroons heavily protected their side of the field. The game was scoreless heading into halftime, and before the break was over a lightning delay was called.

Roanoke gained possession more often in the second half, and managed to score the first goal of the game with just 10 minutes remaining. Five minutes later, Jones was given a penalty kick and took advantage of the opportunity. Both teams fought for a tiebreaker in the final minutes, but the game resulted in a 1-1 draw.

Game Notes

  • Oglethorpe and Roanoke have battled to three ties in the five-game all-time series.
  • Caylen Loftin took the only other shot on goal early in the second half, but it was saved.
  • Crim and Elsevier made 15 saves versus Roanoke's two saves.
