Women’s soccer gets historical win against Piedmont

ATLANTA- On Friday night, two first-half goals from the Oglethorpe women's soccer program resulted in a 2-0 historical win against Piedmont. It was a historic night for the program as Oglethorpe won against Piedmont for the first time since 2010.

The first goal for the Stormy Petrels came in the 10th minute. After a shot from Safiya Said hit the crossbar, Evan Thomas scored from the rebound. It was Thomas's second goal of the season and Said's second assist of the season.

Just 11 minutes later, Oglethorpe scored again as Ella Price volleyed the ball into the back of the net. It was the sophomore's first goal of the season.

It was an impressive showing from Rob King's side. The team has had a terrific start to the season with seven points from just three matches.

  • Oglethorpe's record this season is now 2-0-1.
  • This was the women's soccer team's first win against Piedmont since 2010.
  • The women's soccer program has scored 14 goals in the past three matches.
  • Goalkeepers Katherine Crim and Grace Elsevier both played 45 minutes each. Crim had three saves and Elsevier had five saves.

Oglethorpe will play their next three matches on the road. The team plays at Agnes Scott on September 8 with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Then, they will play at Covenant on September 11 with kickoff set for 7 p.m. and at Talladega on September 14 with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
