CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The unbeaten streak to start the season finally came to a close for the Oglethorpe men's soccer team when Washington and Lee defeated the Stormy Petrels 3-0 Friday night in a neutral-site match. Oglethorpe had already once this year erased a 3-0 deficit on the road at No. 20 Emory but could not repeat the result Friday night.
Oglethorpe and Washington and Lee battled through a scoreless first half of play before the Generals opened the second half with two goals in quick succession to earn the victory.
The Petrels, previously unbeaten through the first four games, fell further behind in the 63rd minute when Washington and Lee converted a PK to go ahead 3-0. It was only the second time this season Oglethorpe gave up more than one goal in its five games.
