Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Early goal not enough in home loss

ATLANTA—Ella Price scored an early goal to give the Oglethorpe women's soccer team the early lead, but in the end visiting Georgia Gwinnett handed the Stormy Petrels a 3-1 loss Wednesday night at home.

Lauryn Oliver had an assist on Price's goal on a great pass over the top of the defense that found Price in the box for a couple of touches and a putaway. Harlow Cregar also was credited with an assist as she found Oliver open and making a move into the attacking third.

The goal gave a spark to the Oglethorpe offense, but Georgia Gwinnett quickly extinguished it with an equalizing goal less than four minutes later on a great shot from the top of the box by Natalie Maguire.

Macguire scored again four minutes after that to give the Grizzlies the lead, and they never relinquished it. Georgia Gwinnett led 3-1 at the halftime break before a scoreless second half.

Game Notes

  • Price's goal was her second of the season, ranking tied for third on the team only one off the lead.
  • Oliver's assist was the first of the season while Cregar's assist was her second.
  • This was the first meeting between Oglethorpe and Georgia Gwinnett, which started its athletics program in 2012-13.
  • The loss brought Oglethorpe's record to 3-3-1 overall.
