Volleyball brings home seventh win of the season

HUNTINGDON, Ala.—This weekend the Oglethorpe volleyball team headed to Alabama to play two teams at Huntingdon College and came away with a split weekend.

For the second game of the day, the Stormy Petrels faced off against the Huntingdon Hawks, coming away with a 3-1 win. The Stormy Petrels narrowly won the first set 25-21 but were helped by 26 digs throughout the match by Legacy Guider. They then went on to win the second set with an even bigger gap of 25-16.

The Hawks came back to win the third set before going on to the fourth and final set. The Stormy Petrels fought hard and won the set and match with a kill by Briella Kohler, bringing the team the seventh win of the season.

The day's first game was a neutral-site match against the Maryville Scots. The match had a rough start with the Scots taking the first set 25-17. The Stormy Petrels salvaged the second game, taking it after a bad set from the Scots.

The third game of the match was won by the Stormy Petrels with the help of sophomore Autumn Lilly with 19 assists. The Scots fought back and took the fourth set before securing the win against the Stormy Petrels in the fifth set.

The Stormy Petrels will play next at Dorough Field House on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 12 p.m. against Millsaps College. They will stay home for the next weekend before going on the road again on October 12.
