Volleyball opens home SAA season with loss

ATLANTA—The Oglethorpe volleyball team returned home this weekend to play the Millsaps Majors. Despite their best efforts at a comeback, the Stormy Petrels lost the match in four sets, 3-1.

Senior Briella Kohler had an exceptional game in the opening set with a season-high in both blocks and digs having four and 23, respectively. The Majors ended up taking the set 25-18 after a service error.

The second set was even closer than the first but Millsaps still took it 25-20. The Stormy Petrels started the set strong taking the first three points but Millsaps fought back. Oglethorpe scored their last point of the set with an assist from Autumn Lilly, who had a total of 22 throughout the match.

In the third set, the Stormy Petrels came back swinging winning 25-23. Most of the third set was neck and neck with the two teams having been tied for most of it. The Stormy Petrels won the last two points, winning them the set with a block by Camdyn George and Aubrey Hill.

The fourth and final set was a real nail-biter with Millsaps and Oglethorpe going back in fourth with who was in the lead. After losing a five-point lead, the Stormy Petrels worked hard to fight back to close the gap. Millsaps still took it in the end 25-22, winning them the match.

Up next, Oglethorpe will spend the next weekend at home facing Centre on Saturday and Sewanee on Sunday before going on the road again. They will return on October 23 for a match against Berry.
