RALEIGH, N.C. -- In the first road games of the season, the Stormy Petrels brought home three wins this weekend. They headed up to North Carolina to represent Oglethorpe against four other schools.
During the first match of the weekend, Oglethorpe faced the Guilford Quakers. After winning the first two sets with the help of Briella Kohler, who had a total of 17 kills during the game, the Stormy Petrels lost the third and fourth sets. In the nail-biting final set, they won 15-12.
The weekend's second match was against the Catholic University Cardinals later that day. The Stormy Petrels sadly lost the first set 25-23 before going on to win the next three sets. Senior Legacy Guider was a standout with 21 digs along with sophomore Autumn Lilly with 23 assists.
The third win of the weekend was against the Warren Wilson College Owls. The Owls won the first set 25-23 before the Stormy Petrels came back winning the next two sets. The Stormy Petrels lost the third set 26-24 before coming back with a vengeance and winning the fifth and final set. Senior Gabbie Phillips had an incredibly good game with 26 assists and 19 digs.
The Stormy Petrels also battled the Bridgewater College Eagles this weekend, but this match ended up being the team's only loss for the weekend. The Stormy Petrels fought hard with Ashlynn Stephens being a leader with eight kills.
The Stormy Petrels will play four matches at the Berry College Invitational and then move on to Alabama before returning home on September 29 at 12 p.m. to play Millsaps College in Dorough Field House.
