Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Petrels falter at Berry in SAA game

ROME, Ga.—In a game that was all about runs, the Oglethorpe women's basketball team saw Berry finish the game on an 11-3 run to send the Stormy Petrels to a 66-57 defeat Wednesday evening in Southern Athletic Association action.

Oglethorpe gave up the first seven points of the game which proved to be pivotal, as it marked a hole the team could never climb out of. It was a five-point game at halftime but a sequence of made free throws from Keimarya Rivera followed by a made 3-pointer from Mia Geveke cut Berry's deficit to one, 41-40, early in the third quarter.

Oglethorpe was unable to put it over the top to take the lead in that period, and Berry extended its advantage back out to eight. Then, a 7-0 Oglethorpe run highlighted by another Geveke three brought the game back to one, 55-54, early in the fourth quarter.

Berry answered that run with a 4-0 run to go back ahead by five then made free throws to seal the game in the closing minutes.
