Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s basketball falls at SAA frontrunner

JACKSON, Miss.—The Oglethorpe women's basketball team made the trip to Southern Athletic Association leader Millsaps to face the SAA unbeaten Majors, but despite 19 points from Keimarya Rivera and 11 points from Sheraton Foster, the Stormy Petrels fell 69-51.

Millsaps opened the scoring on its third possession of the game and led the rest of the way. It was a four-point game after one quarter and an eight-point game at the half. Oglethorpe trimmed the game to five in the third quarter, but Millsaps answered with an 18-7 run to go ahead by 16.

Then, the Petrels again trimmed it to nine in the fourth quarter, but once again a 10-3 run from the Majors for the game away for the final time.

Game Notes

  • Rivera and Foster led Oglethorpe both in double figures. Rivera's 19 points came alongside eight rebounds. Foster added five rebounds and four steals.
  • Malia Melton and Mia Geveke followed in the scoring column with seven and six, respectively.
  • Oglethorpe moved its record on the season to 10-7 (1-3 SAA), but the three most recent losses in league play have come against the top three teams in the league.
