ATLANTA—A double-double from Keimarya Rivera and several big plays from Anna Conza in the third quarter helped the Oglethorpe women's basketball team pull away with a 71-57 win over visiting Rhodes Friday evening inside Dorough Field House. It marked the second straight win for the Stormy Petrels.
The game was all about runs, and Oglethorpe had a few of their best of the season. The first came in the first half in the form of a 10-0 stretch where Rivera poured in eight to help Oglethorpe go ahead 28-14 in the second quarter. Rhodes battled back with a 16-2 run to end the half tied at 30-30.
Oglethorpe then started the second half with the first seven points, all scored by Sheraton Foster. In fact, that saw the Petrels take the lead for good.
Helping Oglethorpe maintain that lead was Conza who finished with 16, including 14 in the second half. Rhodes had trimmed the lead to two midway through the third quarter when Conza scored an one-fashioned 3-point play to put the Petrels back up by five. She then knocked down two big 3-pointers a couple minutes later to put the Petrels up by eight and 10, respectively.
Rhodes cut it back to five midway through the fourth quarter, but a 10-2 Oglethorpe run sealed the win.
