MEMPHIS- Even with last-minute efforts by Evan Thomas, the Oglethorpe women's soccer team took a split record in Southern Athletic Association games with a loss 2-1 to the Rhodes Lynx on Saturday.
The Lynx had momentum at home with a swift goal scored in the sixth minute of the half. This goal placed Rhodes on the board 1-0. The possession stayed with the Lynx with another shot in the 25th minute yet kept at bay by Katherine Crim. Harlow Cregar responded quickly with a strong shot, just missed out right. Rowan Gross took a shot as well but could not equalize the score.
The second half started with heavy offensive pressure with a shot, but no match for Crim's defensive presence. However, in the 59th minute, the Lynx increased the score to 2-0. Crim responded strong with another save which gave the Petrels momentum.
After a long ball from Allysa Hearn to Evan Thomas, who swerved two defenders and the goalkeeper, Thomas had an open goal that she capitalized to put the Petrels on the board. This made the score 2-1 in the 76th minute. From there, Emma Perkins and Abby Zerm took two strong shots but both missed. One more shot from the Lynx allowed for a strong save from Grace Elsevier. Despite strong efforts, the Stormy Petrels could not find another shot and fell to the Lynx.
