ATLANTA- The Oglethorpe women's soccer team honored the class of 2026 on Saturday with a blazing 3-1 win over the Millsaps Majors with goals scored by Rowan Gross and Delaney Hanks. This concluded the home slate for the 2025 season.
The Petrels commanded the first half with two strong shots by Emma Perkins and additional shots from Myleigh Oglesby and Allyssa Hearn. All three pressured the Majors backline for about 30 minutes but could not score. However, in the 35th minute, a through ball from Cayden Loftin found Evan Thomas who took a shot but deflected. Rowan Gross swooped in and finished the play with a shot on goal that blazed past the Pirates' goalkeeper. This put the Petrels on the board making the score 1-0. The Petrels outshot the Pirates 12-0 and the Oglethorpe defense maintained a shutout in the first half.
Hanks kicked off the second half with the same fire as the first with a shot in the 48th minute. After a penalty kick opportunity, the Majors scored in the 58th minute tying the score 1-1. Responding quickly, Hearn took a shot missing, just out the top. Gabbi Plaia delivered a perfectly placed long ball to find Oglesby just outside the box who made a short pass to Delaney Hanks in a one-on-one opportunity with a defender. Pushing beyond the Pirates' defense she scored improving the score to 2-1 in the 72nd minute.
Shots from Harlow Cregar, Thomas and Hearn allowed for the momentum to be with the Stormy Petrels for the remainder of the second half. After a recovery ball moving past the goalie by Ashley Flores and Thomas, Hanks ended up with another open opportunity to score. She capitalized on it putting the Petrels up 3-1 in the 88th minute. Without the time to get possession back, the Petrels took home a strong win over the Majors.
