Senior day brings 3-1 victory for Stormy Petrels

ATLANTA- Three strong goals allowed for an Oglethorpe men's soccer win on senior day against the Millsaps Majors on Saturday as the Stormy Petrels concluded their home schedule for the 2025 season.

Luke Montes began the half with a promising shot in the 14th minute but could not put the Petrels on the board. Sebastian Lewis had a save shortly after that kept the Majors at bay.

After recovering the ball on the sideline, Montes delivered a short pass to find Luca Orsi far from the goal. Jolting past the defender, Orsi took a quick shot from still beyond the goalie box which flew past the Majors' goalie for the first goal of the game, making the scoreboard 1-0 in the 33rd minute.

The rest of the half stayed with the Petrels as they outshot the majors 4-3. Lewis finished the half with his one save.

Two shots by Daniel Gardner set the offensive tone for the second half of the game. From a direct free kick outside the box, Alex Tapia cleared the wall and sent the ball well into the net. This goal in the 63rd minute improved the score to 2-0.

This momentum left the Petrels wanting more as a set of quick passes in the midfield allowed for a through ball to Ethan Martinez who drove the ball down to the goal, a minute after Tapia's goal. A cross ball by Martinez found Anthony Rouse who finished the play for the third goal of the game.

At 3-0, the Majors looked to increase the score in their favor but their shot was saved by Lewis. A last-minute hope for the Majors appeared when they scored a goal with just 17 seconds left, scoring on a deflection to make it 3-1.
