Snap back win for Petrels in Danville

DANVILLE, Ky.—A last-minute goal from Myleigh Oglesby helped the Oglethorpe women's soccer team defeat the Centre Colonels 1-0 Sunday afternoon on the road. The win moved Oglethorpe up to fourth in the Southern Athletic Association and marked the Petrels' first win over Centre since 1999.

After both teams went scoreless in the first half, Oglesby broke the scoreless deadlock in the 84th minute to send the Petrels to the victory.

Centre managed to set an offensive tone early in the first half with three back-to-back shots, but they were no match for Katherine Crim who finished the first half with two saves.

A shutout continued in the second half with a strong shot by the Colonels but kept at bay by Crim. Emma Perkins returned the fire with a strong shot in the 62nd minute yet missed top right. An additional shot by Oglesby gave her the wind to capitalize on a scoring opportunity in the 84th minute to put the Petrels on the board. In a one-on-one opportunity, she cleared the Colonel's defense to make the score 1-0 with a left-footed shot for her third goal of the season.

Match Notes

  • This was Oglesby's first game-winning goal of the season.
  • The Petrels tallied three saves to the Colonels one.

Up Next

The Petrels travel again this weekend to Berry in Rome, Georgia, to conclude the regular season. A win over Berry could move the Petrels as high as third in the final regular-season standings.
