Despite season high saves for Lewis, Petrels fall to No. 14 Pirates 1-0

ATLANTA- The Oglethorpe men's soccer team closed out the first weekend of Southern Athletic Association matches with a tough 1-0 loss to No. 14 Southwestern University. The Stormy Petrels were in line to come away with a point from a scoreless draw, but the Pirates scored the eventual winner in the 82nd minute.

The first half began with the possession in the Pirates' hands with a shot in the early first minute yet recovered by Sebastian Lewis. The Petrels attempted to have offensive power with a shot from Daniel Gardner in the 36th minute yet could not advance the score. Despite additional shots from Nick Krull and Kaden Greenfield, the score stayed at a stalemate. Lewis ended the half with three saves.

The Pirates continued their offensive pressure taking multiple shots, saved by Lewis, in the second half. It was then the Petrels' turn for the pressure when Luca Orsi took a shot in the 62nd minute, to the bottom left, but it was saved. With three more shots, Lewis was able to keep the stalemate so far. Christian Watson responded, missing at the top woodwork. Gardner took a shot as well, saved in the bottom center of the goal. However, in the 82nd minute, Southwestern scored to advance the score 1-0.

Alex Tapia quickly responded trying to equalize, yet it was saved. Running out of time, Watson attempted a last minute shot but could not get it in.
