Petrels start season with big win

ROME, Ga. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels kicked off the new year with a big 13-2 win over the Shorter Hawks Saturday evening on the road. Aniedo Udoh led with five goals.

Israel Pendleton-Moore and Joshua Tamarkin followed with three goals and two assists each. Matthew Colbey and Liam Miller also scored a goal each. Goalkeeper Xay Duax made four saves and caused three turnovers. Chris McDowell recovered five ground balls and Parker Song won five faceoffs.

Tamarkin made his first goal early in the first period, immediately followed by Udoh's first. Udoh scored three more times in the period, on top of Colbey's goal. Shorter managed to score their first goal in the final seconds of the first quarter, but the Petrels had already created a substantial lead.

Miller was the only one to score in the second quarter, then Udoh and Tamarkin added two more in the third period.

The game gained intensity in the final period, with Shorter fighting hard for another goal. Udoh was the first to score, followed by three in a row from Pendleton-Moore. The Hawks did make another last-second goal, but Oglethorpe had already clenched the 13-2 win.
