Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball bounces back with big win over Brandeis

ATLANTA—Cooper Krause went 3-for-4 and Mason Pearcy went 3-for-3 in the nightcap as Oglethorpe's baseball team opened the season with some quick redemption, splitting two games of a doubleheader against Brandeis on Sunday. The Stormy Petrels fell narrowly in game one, 3-2, but bounced back with an 11-6 win in game two.

Oglethorpe looked to be on the way to a win in the 2025 season opener after battling back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game 2-2 in the fifth. Brick Conway and Krause both had sacrifice flies in that inning to knot the game back up, and the Petrels even had a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth but came up short.

Isaiah Pou represented the go-ahead run at second base with one out in that inning, but a strikeout and pop out ended the threat. Brandeis responded with a two-out rally to take the lead on a single up the middle and held on to take the opening game of the twin bill.

After another early lead from Brandeis in game two, Oglethorpe quickly responded with four runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good. Pearcy had an RBI single to left field to tie the game, and Trey Kinnan gave the Petrels the lead with an infield hit shortly after that.

Hunter Spence and Pearcy came in to score in the third and Pearcy had a two-RBI double in the fourth as Oglethorpe padded the lead to 9-2 after five innings. Despite a late rally from the Judges in the sixth, Dylan Quintilio struck out two in an inning and a third to close the final door and pick up the save.

Game Notes

  • Hayden Partian picked up the win in game two after going 2 1/3 innings of scoreless and hitless effort. He walked two and struck out three for his first collegiate win.
  • Ryan Causey recorded his first collegiate hit with an RBI single to single field that made it 9-2 in game two.
  • Aiden Hosford went 2-for-2 with a double in game one.
  • JB Sain had a great start in his collegiate debut in game one. He went the first four innings allowing only four hits, two runs (one earned) and no walks with three strikeouts.
