Petrels dominate Guilford

GREENSBORO , N.C. - Makenna Bowens led with six goals as the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels defeated the Guilford Quakers 20-6.

Bowens also won seven draw controls. Ellis Mitchum followed with four goals, two assists and four draw controls. Mariah Butler made three goals and three assists. Jersey Cuni, Savannah Freeman and Anna Ramsden each scored two goals. Tori Perez made seven saves.

Bowens scored her first goal right out of the gate, but it was quickly answered by the Quakers. Mitchum, Bowens and Ramsden then combined for back-to-back-to-back attacks to secure a 4-1 lead. The Petrels added four more goals to close out the quarter, and this kept Oglethorpe on top for the remainder of the game.

The Petrels kept their foot on the gas in the second quarter, only allowing Guilford two goals. Both teams got a goal early in the third period, but the Quaker's attempts were moot. Bowens scored the final goal of the game and secured a big 20-6 win.
